[November 18th] Volunteer Workday: Shepherd Nature Trail

Date/Time
Friday, November 18, 2022
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the Office of the Duke Forest for a volunteer workday at the Shepherd Nature Trail!

The Shepherd Nature Trail (SNT) needs some love! Join us to tackle some projects along the trail, in which many hands will make light work. Volunteers will work in small groups under the supervision of Duke Forest Staff to:

  • Remove old footbridges along SNT
  • Backfill and stabilize the trail where bridges were removed
  • Brush up unauthorized social trails
  • Complete other projects such as cleaning SNT interpretive signage, as time allows

Volunteers must be physically able and prepared for a good deal of hiking and carrying fairly heavy loads! SNT is a 0.8-mile loop that includes unpaved walking surfaces and short hilly sections. Volunteer responsibilities will include hiking the trail while carrying tools and materials, using shovels to backfill and stabilize the trail with rocks and soil, and carrying branches and other natural materials to brush-up unauthorized trails. All participants will be required to sign a volunteer waiver.

When: Friday, November 18, 2022 from 1pm-4pm
