SHEPHERD NATURE TRAIL GUIDED TOUR

Sunday, September 17 from 11am to 1:15pm

Join Duke Forest Senior Program Coordinator, Maggie Heraty, for an early fall tour of the Shepherd Nature Trail, Duke Forest’s one and only interpretive trail. This introductory tour is an opportunity for both new and seasoned Duke Forest visitors to gain deeper insight into what makes the Shepherd Nature trail—and the land it traverses—so special. Learn more about the human and natural history of the area and about the important teaching and research mission of the Duke Forest. Maggie will invite participants to contemplate the land’s past and present and consider the roles we all play in shaping this forest over time. In return, you’ll find that the Shepherd Nature Trail is the place to show (and impress) your nature- and history-loving friends!

Audience: This tour is geared toward adult audiences (ages 18+). Any minors interested in participating must have a parent or guardian present and have an active interest in the subject.

Accessibility: The Shepherd Nature Trail is 0.8 miles in total. It is considered easy for an average hiker. However, it includes unpaved walking surfaces (gravel and dirt footpaths), short uphill and downhill sections, and foot-bridge crossings. No bathrooms are available. Parking is available and will be directed by Duke Forest staff.

Registration for this event is now closed.
