Research Seed Funding
Our Research Seed Funding initiative is the catalyst for attracting top-tier researchers and groundbreaking ideas to the Duke Forest. By funding this program, we can eliminate some of the financial obstacles that often hinder early-career researchers from conducting vital studies within our forest. We understand the significant barriers they face, including project site costs, logistical challenges, housing, and publishing fees. Your generous support enables us to provide critical funding to facilitate the siting of exciting new research projects. This initiative ensures that we continue to draw the best and brightest minds to explore, study, and conserve our natural environment. Your contribution directly fuels innovation and advances our understanding of the forest, benefiting both the scientific community and the environment.
Climate and Sustainability Teaching Fund
As Duke advances its commitment to climate and sustainability, the Forest provides an unparalleled setting for hands-on, experiential learning across disciplines. From studying forest ecosystems and biodiversity conservation to exploring the social, economic, and policy dimensions of climate action, students and faculty can engage directly with the challenges and solutions shaping our future.
This fund will enable the Duke Forest to fully leverage its diverse research portfolio, conservation initiatives, and sustainable land management practices to support innovative teaching and immersive field experiences. By fostering interdisciplinary partnerships with faculty, staff, and students, this initiative will expand opportunities to study conservation, restoration, mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency. It will also encourage exploration of climate and sustainability topics through the lenses of the humanities and social sciences, ensuring a holistic approach to environmental education.
With dedicated support, the Duke Forest can continue to serve as a dynamic classroom, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to lead in a rapidly changing world.
