The North Carolina Forestry Association and local Scouts BSA troops held a Forestry Merit Badge Day in the Duke Forest at the end of September. Over 50 Scouts learned about trees, mast, tree disease, forest wood products and more. Staff from the North Carolina Forest Service and representatives from timber companies led sections on topic areas. Scouts were able to achieve almost all of the requirements for their Forestry merit badge that day. This was a wonderful collaboration for and use of the Duke Forest teaching and research laboratory.
