Background
This gallery represents a 1-year evolution of forest stands in Compartment 72 of The Duke Forest after a major harvest in October 2021. The project objective is to provide an on-going timeline of the stand dynamics as sustainable forestry practices are applied to this harvested area.
The harvested stands are in Compartment 72 of the Duke Forest and are Loblolly Pine stands with the Gate 12 stand planted in 1932. The stands have been under active silviculture management since planting and an active management plan is in place to regenerate this forest area to a sustainable forest ecosystem to support the core missions of the forest.
